One of the fights many Boxing purists were looking forward to was the upcoming bout, at welterweight, between Frankie Gavin and Sam Eggington.

Gavin, who was out-classed in an IBF world title fight against Kell Brook, was taking on the unbeaten Eggington with a view to claiming the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles.

The fight was scheduled for 17th October at the Birmingham NIA, unfortunately it has had to be called off.

It transpires that Gavin has sustained some damage to his foot after it was run over by a car, with Gavin enlightening us by remarking to the media,

‘Sorry to say I have had to pull out of my fight.

‘I got ran over two-and-a-half weeks ago. Thinking it would heal, but it hasn’t so I have had to pull out.

‘I was stepping off the kerb in Aston two weeks ago. The driver did stop. There’s nothing broken, but it is badly bruised. I’ve had injections, but couldn’t train properly. I couldn’t run on it.

‘Hopefully, the fight can happen again some stage in the future. I hope to be back in the ring sometime in November/December.’

Of all the reasons??????..
