In Wolverhampton last night, at the Civic Hall, the British welterweight champion, Frankie Gavin, lost his bid to become European champion.

The highly rated Gavin, of whom big things are predicted, was facing Leonard Bundu for the crown.

Gavin (28) was expected to have too much for the veteran Bundu (39), but the Italian, a wily customer, hung onto his own unbeaten record.

Entering the ring Gavin had a professional record of 19-0 compared to that of Bundu who had a record that read 30-0-2

In a closely fought bout the judges scored as follows:-

? 114-113 (Bundu)
? 114-113 (Bundu)
? 117-115 (Gavin)

With the margin very so narrow it?s expected that a re-match will be negotiated but Bundu remains the scourge of British fighters and a deserved champion.
