A promotion is being put together at the Hull Ice Arena that will see Gavin McDonnell fight for the vacant WBC super-bantamweight title.

On the 25th February, Gavin McDonnell will take on Rey Vargas, a fighter that is unbeaten in 28 fights and has knocked out 22 of his opponents.

Gavin will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of his brother Jamie who is the reigning WBA bantamweight champion.

Gavin has fought 18 times registering 16 wins and 2 draws, speaking about the task ahead, Gavin is quoted as having remarked,

‘I’ve seen my brother become a world champion and I’m ready to become world champion.

‘Vargas’ record says that he’s a big puncher but we won’t know how good he is until we get in there.

‘He will have to knock me out cold to win it because I really want to make a name for myself in this fight.’

Also likely to appear on the promotion are Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle.

Campbell is set to defend his WBC silver lightweight title against Jario Lopez, whilst Coyle will fight Kofi Yates.

It?s starting to look like an interesting bill, bring it on.
