The Frankie Gavin bandwagon rolls on relentlessly.

Last night, Gavin added the Commonwealth welterweight title to his British crown with a convincing win over Denton Vassell, from Manchester.

Gavin, now sporting a record of 160, started the fight well, dominating his opponent, but Vassell came into the fight in the fifth round when a flurry of action saw Gavin forced back onto the ropes.

But Gavin, who is surely destined for honours at a higher level, regained the impetus and when a heavy blow to the jaw troubled Vassell, the fight was stopped in round seven.

The devastating punch that finished the fight fractured Vassell?s jaw and Gavin, rated at number 9 in the WBO rankings could be on the verge of a top five place and could well be closing in on a world title fight.
