Across the pond last night, at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, two of the biggest names in the welterweight division went head-to-head for the vacant WBC welterweight title.

Going into the fight Danny Garcia was expected to overcome the challenge provided by the #6 WBC contender Robert Guerrero and that was exactly how it turned out.

In what was a fight that all three judges scored exactly the same, Garcia took a unanimous points verdict by 116-112.

The victory takes Garcia’s record to 32-0 with 18 of those wins coming by stoppage whereas Guerrero sees his record slip to 33-4-1 also with 18 wins by the big knockout.

With Garcia now the WBC welterweight champion, could we see Amir Khan climbing into the ring to face him, or will Garcia look elsewhere for his next challenge?
