When, at the weekend over in America, Danny Garcia captured the WBC welterweight crown, we questioned whether it would mean his next opponent would be Amir Khan.

Garcia, when discussing the topic, intimated that he didn’t want to face Khan and had other plans.

However Garcia’s plans have been thrown into turmoil with the WBC ordering the fighter, who has a record of 32-0 with 18 knockouts, to defend his new title against the boxer from Bolton.

The WBA have stipulated that Garcia must defend his belt by June.

But before we all start celebrating the fact that Amir Khan will be getting a fight he deserves, don’t be too surprised if Garcia’s advisor, Al Haymon, pulls a few strings to allow Garcia sidestep Khan and navigate his own route through the WBC contenders.

The boxing world moves in mysterious ways.
