As we expected, with the boxing authorities not showing an ounce of common sense, the IBF have announced that they have stripped Tyson Fury of their version of the world heavyweight title belt.
Less than two weeks after winning the belt against Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Tyson has seen one of his three belts wrenched from his grasp simply because he had a re-match clause in his contract to fight Klitschko again.
With a fight against the IBF mandatory challenger, Vyacheslav Glazkov, something that just couldn?t happen, the IBF have ripped any credibility the sport had with regards to only winning and losing belts in the ring to shreds.
Speaking about their decision the IBF championships chairman, Lindsey Tucker is quoted as having remarked,
It’s true he’s been stripped of his IBF belt.
‘Our challenger was Vyacheslav Glazkov, but instead Fury’s gone and signed a rematch clause with Wladimir Klitschko.’
Patience is obviously not a virtue that the IBF possesses in abundance.
But you can?t knock Vyacheslav Glazkov, he?s going to, as they say, seize the moment and his promoter, Kathy Duva, has remarked,
?We are very happy. We would have preferred to fight Fury, but he has other plans.
?We will focus on the IBF title fight with Martin and win it and then move on to bigger fights.?
Which begs me to ask the question ? will we ever see a unified world heavyweight champion again or will boxing politics always interfere?
