In the ESPRIT Arena, in Dusseldorf last night, Tyson Fury pulled off one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing.

Facing Wladimir ?Dr Steelhammer? Klitschko, Tyson executed a game plan to perfection taking the verdict on the score-cards of all three judges, with the margins announced as thus:

? 115-112
? 112-112
? 116-111

The fact that the fight took place at all was something of a miracle with arguments about the gloves, a spongy ring and right at the death Klitschko binding his hands without any witnesses from Team Fury present.

But 54,000 expectant spectators in the ring were to witness a confident, unfazed Fury make his way to the ring, absolutely revelling in the splendour of the occasion.

Once that action started , Fury stuck to a game-plan that saw the challenger unload his jab before keeping his distance. As round-after-round passed Klitschko just couldn?t seem to work out the British fighter , even more so when the challenger switched to a southpaw stance.

An accidental clash of heads saw a cut Open up beneath the champions? eye as Tyson continued to bob, weave, duck and stick out that jab, scoring points and impressing the judges.

The feared right-hand that many though would be Fury?s undoing never connected and instead it was Fury that was looking to be the man who would surprise the world.

A point deducted, for a punch behind the head, gave the British fight-fans in the crowd some concern and when Klitschko finally did land that right hand, Tyson simply shook his head and got back down to business.

When the final bell sounded the wait for the verdict seemed to take forever. Had the judges seen things as we had? The verdict was YES with Michael Buffer uttering those magical words?.. And the new???

What a night!
