The announcement, yesterday, relating to the IBF installing George Groves as the mandatory challenger to Carl Froch?s world title, has provoked a reaction from the champion.

Froch, who many perceived as fighting Andre Ward next, isn?t about to side-step the challenge presented by George Groves.

In fact it seems that whoever the IBF order him to fight he?ll take up the challenge, remarking in the media,

?I?ve no problem getting in the ring with anyone on this planet. If Godzilla wants to fight me that?s OK, I?ll take him on.?

?But if I have to defend against Groves I will because there is no way I?ll be giving my titles up unless it makes sense to go down another route.?

?I?ll sit down and talk things through with my promoter Eddie Hearn but if I?m given an October date to fight Groves, October it is.?

We?re glad to hear it, although the rumour-mill inferred that a Froch v Groves fight was penciled in for next year, here at Vital Boxing we?re of the opinion that too many mandatory challengers are deprived of the chance to become a world champion and that those with the belts should honour their commitments.

Your views on the subject would be most appreciated!

  • I reckon Hearn will steer them in different directions before having a unification match next year, if Froch is still around then!
