And so the day has arrived!

Up in Manchester this evening, Carl Froch will defend his WBA and IBF super-middleweight titles against the unbeaten George Groves.

After a build-up that has confirmed the fighters will never be the best of friends outside the ring, neither fighter could resist one last verbal blast, aimed at the other, as the weigh-in was completed.

Froch, who has been on the back-foot as far as the verbal sparring has gone, came out with a warning relating to this fight being the end of his young challengers career with Froch remarking,

?If this bout doesn?t get stopped early, then this could be the end of George Groves at the age of 25.?

?I am more than capable of inflicting a terrible defeat on him and yes, this could finish him off.?

It would appear that all Groves? pre-fight bluster has wound the 35year old champion up. But despite the flurry of words from the title holder, Groves wasn?t prepared to concede any further ground, retorting back,

?I?m more than confident that I?ve got the tools to beat Carl Froch.?

Well the hour fast approaches and come 22:45 hours tonight (UK time) the time will come to see who really does have the edge in the ring.

Many of the pundits are expecting Froch to retain his titles but I?m not so sure.

Have all those recent wars Froch has been involved in taken something out of him?

Could the younger fighter be ready to make that huge step up in class and return to London as the new IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion of the world?
