In beating Scott Quigg, Carl Frampton made himself a two-belt super-bantamweight champion.
The fighter, from Belfast, lived up to his pre-fight expectations and dominated a fight in which Quigg, to be honest, under-performed.
However, instead of going on to dominate the super-bantamweight division by unifying it, Frampton decided that his ambitions lie elsewhere and vacated the titles to move up to featherweight.
At featherweight Frampton has been given an opportunity to achieve greatness by becoming the first fighter from Northern Ireland to win world titles at two different weights.
But Frampton faces a stiff challenge when he steps into the ring to face the WBA featherweight champion Leo Santa Cruz.
At 29-years-of-age Frampton should be in his prime and ahead of the clash, scheduled for 30th July in New York, he?s provided a classic quote that will have us all scribbling the date down in our diaries with Frampton remarking about the bout,
?It is going to be one of those people talk about for a long time.’
It could well be and we?re sitting on the fence when it comes to declaring a winner, it really could be that close!
