Rumours doing the rounds recently suggested that Carl Frampton would be making the first defence of his IBF super bantamweight world title against the mandatory challenger Chris Avalos.

All that remained was for the date and venue to be confirmed.

Well that has now been confirmed at a press conference held today with it being announced that the fight will take place on February 28th and the venue will be the Odyssey Arena, in Belfast.

For Frampton it means a return to the ring after the Irish fighter hurt his hands in taking the belt off of Kiko Martinez back in September. For Avalos it represents the chance for him to back up his claim that he has the beating of Frampton,

At the press conference, both fighters were in confident mood, the challenger having the temerity to infer that he?d stop Frampton inside six rounds, whilst Frampton simply commented that he?d win convincingly.

It promises to be another thrilling night.
