With a big show at the Manchester Arena fast approaching, there?s also a huge promotion in the US this Saturday, a promotion that features our very own Carl Frampton.

The Belfast fighter will be defending his IBF super-bantamweight against the Mexican Alejandro Gonzalez.

Frampton will be hoping that he can put on an impressive display as he makes his US debut under the guidance of Al Haymon.

Taking up with Haymon, the Frampton camp will be hoping that Frampton?s career can take a huge step forward and lead towards fights against champions in and around his own weight.

Still mentored by Barry McGuigan, the Clones Cyclone has remarked about the effect Frampton has had on the American media, commenting,

‘This is a wonderful opportunity for Carl and I think he can really make it big in America.

‘Sports journalists are fascinated by him and why he is coming over here. That tells me what his potential is.

‘We had a press conference and 90% of the press wanted to hear about Frampton while only 10% wanted to hear about Julio Cesar Chavez (who is also on Saturday night’s bill in Texas).

‘My approach has always been that if we couldn’t sort the fight with Scott Quigg , then we should immediately go to America.’

However, before Frampton?s fans on this side of the Atlantic get all fazed about Frampton not fighting on these shore, McGuigan had some good news, further adding,

‘Fingers crossed, if all goes well on Saturday night, our next fight will have to be in London or somewhere in England.’

Against Scott Quigg or is that too much to ask for?
