On the under-card, at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Saturday night, the highly rated Anthony Fowler had his fourth fight in the professional game.
Fowler, who is tipped to have a very bright future in the sport, was matched against Laszlo Fazekas with the fight taking place in the super-welterweight division.
Having stopped his three previous opponents, Fowler was made to go the distance in this fight with Fazekas proving a tough-nut to crack.
After six rounds of pulsating action, with Fowler clearly the dominant fighter, the Liverpool fighter was given the decision with the points verdict being declared as 60-54.
Talking to the media after the victory, Fowler had this to say,
‘He was tough, I knew he would be cute and clever, it’s exactly what I needed at this time in my career.
‘I respect him because this is a hard job.
‘I was a bit too patient tonight, I would like to go through the gears more. I just couldn’t find that one shot to get him out of there.’
As they say, getting a full six rounds under his belt will be far more beneficial than a quick stoppage.
