One fight last night, saw any hopes of Carl Froch getting a swansong Las Vegas fight diminished even further.

Froch?s camp, so we?re always being told, have targeted a fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Junior for their man.

Last night, at the Stub-Hub Centre in Carson, California, in a catch-weight fight made at 172 pounds, Chavez was given a beating by the former light heavyweight title challenger Andrzej Fonfana.

The fight was ended in between the end of the ninth round and the start of the tenth when Chavez didn?t get off of his stool after being given a torrid time in round nine that saw him hit the canvas with considerable force. Although he got to his feet he was clearly badly hurt and he decision not to come out for the tenth was, quite probably, a wise on.

Chavez record, after the defeat, reads 48-2-1 with 32 coming by way of knockout whilst his conqueror Andrzej Fonfara saw his record go to 27-3 with 16 by way of knockout.
