In Liverpool last night, Terry Flanagan came, he saw and he conquered.

The WBO world lightweight title holder was defending his title against the fellow British fighter, the Liverpudlian Derry Matthews.

Ahead of the fight Flanagan had predicted he?d stop Matthews whilst also deriding the quality of opposition Matthews had fought in his career.

As it turned out the fight, at the Liverpool Echo Arena, was to go the distance with Flanagan taking the honours on points, with the judge?s scorecards reading,

? 117 ? 110
? 115 ? 112
? 117 ? 110

Even though Flanagan was docked a point by the referee, Phil Edwards, for use of the forearm, in the 8th round, the twenty-six year old champion always had too much for his older opponent.

The win takes Flanagan?s record to 30-0.

As for his next fight his promoter, Frank Warren, is keen to get Flanagan in the ring with another Mancunian fighter, Anthony Crolla, the current WBA title holder with Warren quoted as having remarked,

‘We’ve made him a big offer.

‘Let the two of them fight. There’s no problem from our end. It’s a fight that could be made.?

However, that fight could be dependent upon Crolla successfully defending his WBA lightweight title against Ismael Barroso at the Manchester Arena on May 7th.
