Today there should have been an interesting press conference to promote the forthcoming world title eliminator between Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Junior.
I say should have because it appears that Chris Eubank Junior (and his father) didn?t show, causing the promoter, Frank Warren, somewhat irritated.
Speaking about the no-show, Warren had this to say,
‘I can’t tell you how angry it makes me. I’m apologizing but I feel the ones apologizing should be Chris Eubank Sr.?
‘He agreed to come here and in the last day or so we’ve had a situation where they will only show up – and I have the text message here – if a £50,000 bond was put into an escrow, as he doesn’t trust Bill not to put his hands on Junior.?
”He is on video saying he will slap him. I will take him at his word. If he has that money to lose he will think twice about carrying out the threat’.
‘I’ve not had anything like that happen at any of my press conferences. We offered to have four security men here or put a fence down the middle.?
‘Billy has an impeccable record at press conferences and at fights.’
Now we?ve seen some strange happening sin this sport we love but this appears to be something else.
Quite what mind-games the Eubank camp are playing remains a great unanswered question.
Let?s just hope they show up on the 29th November!
