The undercard of the huge clash between Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly, Scott Quigg will be making a defence of his WBA super-bantamweight title.
However his opponent, the Japanese fighter Hidenori Otake will have an incentive, other than winning the belt, to dethrone Quigg.
It appears that if the Japanese fight leaves the Echo Arena with the WBA belt he will have an alcoholic drink named after him in his homeland, a prize a guy like me would appreciate.
It also appears that Otake is coming to England to do a job on Quigg and is quoted in the media as having remarked,
?I?m not content with just being the challenger, and I?m not going to England just for the memories ? I?m ready to give everything to bring home the belt.?
?Quigg looks like he is strong, and hits hard. He?s also good at controlling the distance ? he has many good qualities but in boxing, you never know what will happen until you get in the ring.?
?Since we?ll be in enemy territory, it will be tough to win on points. So I?m going for the knockout.?
Now I?m not sure if Otake can do some serious damage to Quigg as the Bury fighter heads towards a showdown with rival Carl Frampton, but it sure is refreshing to hear somebody is coming to these shores with such ambitious intent.
Extra Incentive for Quigg?s Next Opponent
