In the bedlam that encompassed the SSE Arena, Wembley, on Saturday night, there was one moment somewhere around the eighth round where it appeared that Chris Eubank Snr was told to get off the ring apron.

It?s been claimed that Eubank Snr had been pleading with Victor Loughlin to stop the fight, to prevent Nick Blackwell getting seriously injured.

Earlier, the live television feed had picked Eubank Snr up telling is son to leave the head alone and concentrate on the body.

These words have been translated in two ways, the first being that Eubank Snr was telling his son to concentrate his attacks on the body as the head-shots didn?t look like bringing the stoppage the wanted whilst the second train of thought was that Eubank Snr didn?t want his son to inflict serious damage on a fighter who, as it turned out, was too brave for his own good.

At a press conference held today, Chris Eubank Snr did his best to clarify the matter, remarking to those in attendance,

‘Even in sparring, I tell Junior to stay away from the head because his punching is fast, powerful and dangerous.

‘So most certainly I was saying this to protect the fighter.’

So there you have it, straight from the man himself.
