Aside from the unfortunate announcement that the big fight involving Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko has been postponed, another piece of rather relevant news has broken today.
There were rumours doing the rounds that there was to be an announcement from Matchroom today and those rumours were correct.
Eddie Hearn has announced that Chris Eubank Junior has signed promotional terms with Matchroom.
After a period of absence from the ring, Eubank Jr will make a return to the ring on October 24th on the undercard of Kell Brook?s defence o fhis IBF welterweight crown against Diego Chaves at the Sheffield Arena.
The deal will also see Eubank Jr appear on the undercard of the huge December 12th bill that sees Anthony Joshua going head-to-head with Dillian Whyte.
Talking about the deal Hearn has commented,
?I am delighted to welcome Eubank Jr to our team. I hope to have similar success with Eubank Jr as my father did with Chris Eubank.?
Whereas the Eubank thought son joining Hearn and Matchroom were,
?Team Eubank are delighted to be working with Matchroom Boxing, who we believe have the ability to help Chris Jnr realise his true potential. With our new partnership with Matchroom Boxing, we will be in an even stronger position to add value to boxing by capitalising on opportunities through focused collaboration.
?This new association will allow us to play an even bigger role in boxing by giving fans what they love and to build unique opportunities and experiences with a rich mix of new contests.?
To me it makes sense all round, Hearn can get Eubank Jr the fights he wants and his exposure will be increased, just what he needs right now rather than be sat around waiting for something to come along.
