In Stuttgart, on Saturday evening, Chris Eubank Jnr produced a stunning display to beat the previously unbeaten Turkish fighter Avni Yildirim.
The fight, a quarter-final in the World Boxing Super Series middleweight division, was held at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Halle in Stuttgart, with the venue full of supporters of the Turkish fighter.
Going into the fight, Yildirim had a record that read 16-0 and with his come-forward style and strength was supposed to give Eubank Jnr a stiff test.
However, Eubank Jnr started the bout well and had the Turkish fighter down on one knee in the first round and things were starting to look ominous for Yildirim.
The end came in the third round when Eubank Jnr caught Yildirim with a perfect left-hook sending Yildirim to the canvas and causing the referee to step in and stop the fight.
Talking to the media after the fight, Eubank Jnr had this to say,
‘I’m here to dominate this tournament. I’m sending a message out there that I’m coming. George Groves, get through your next fight so we can give the boxing fans what they want to see.
‘I think it’s going to be exactly the same as what we saw tonight. I’m not playing anymore.’
The win takes Eubank Jnr?s record to 25-1 and on this performance, if Groves can overcome Jamie Cox at the Wembley Arena next weekend, we could see one hell of a semi-final in this World Boxing Super Series.
