To see a young fighter burst onto the scene is always something that endears boxing to me.

Over the years I?ve watched fighters such as McGuigan, Bruno, Benn, Eubank, Hatton and many others flourish as they pick up more and more experience.

Tonight, in Sheffield, another highly rated prospect, Adam Etches, will be having his 16th professional fight when he takes on the Mexican fighter Felipe De La Paz for the IBF Youth title.

Etch has started his career in spectacular fashion winning his first fifteen fights and stopping 12 of those he?s faced.

Adam?s progress has come to the attention of a legendary British boxer, Ricky Hatton, who has remarked about the Sheffield youngster,

?Adam comes to my gym occasionally and I?ve been really impressed.?

?I was known as a big ticket seller during my career, always selling out the 20,000 seat Manchester Arena.?

?And of course I took thousands of fans to Las Vegas when I boxed there.?

?It?s relatively early days in his career but I think Adam has the potential to sell out venues.?

?He has the style that excites crowds and the ability to become middleweight world champion.?

?He looks as if butter wouldn?t melt in his mouth but as soon as those gloves go on and he slips between the ropes he becomes a bit of a devil.?

?There is real power in those fists. I?d say he I is more like a light-heavy when he connects.?

It?ll be interesting to see what progress and how quickly Adam Etches makes in this division but he?s most certainly a name to look out for.
