Last night, at the O2 Arena, Charlie Edwards tried to win a world title in just his ninth professional fight.

Taking on the Filipino fighter John Riel Casimero for the IBF flyweight title, Edwards dream was ended by a tenth round stoppage.

The 23-year-old from Surrey put up a performance from which he?ll lean but the 26-year-old champion just had too much for the youngster.

Early on Edwards did well to avoid the huge swinging punches thrown by Casimero and land some jabs of his own. However Casimero soon realised that Edwards limited experience meant he didn?t have the variety of punches or power to hurt him.

The first signs that Casimero was wearing Edwards down came in the seventh round when Edwards was caught with an uppercut and then, in round eight, a clubbing right-hand troubled the challenger.

The end for Edwards came in the tenth round when he was floored by a left hook, Edwards bravely rose to his feet but another flurry of punches saw the referee step in to save the young fighter from taking any further punishment.
