Tonight, over in the Republic of Ireland, a Boxing promotion has been cancelled.
Yesterday, at the weigh-in, in the Regency Hotel, in Dublin, ahead of a clash between Jamie Kavanagh and Antonio Joao Berto, gunmen burst in and started shooting at those watching the weigh-in.
Dressed wearing police style uniforms, three men opened fire with AK47 guns with the result that those attending the weigh-in were forced to flee for their lives, with the unfortunate result that three people were shot with one dying.
Supporters attending weigh-ins know that they can be boisterous affairs as opponents go head-to-head after stepping off the scales, but, generally they are good natured buoyant affairs, not the carnage we witnessed yesterday.
Just what is this world coming to?
