Across the pond, in the US, there are mutterings that suggest Oscar De La Hoya is contemplating a comeback.
It appears that the 41-year-old former six division world champion, who retired with a record that read 39-6 with 30 wins by knockout, fancies one more fight.
But it wouldn?t be any old fight, Oscar wants it to be a real headliner and has, so we?re told, already rebuffed a fight against Shane Mosely.
It seems that the fighter Oscar De La Hoya wants to be in the opposite corner to his none other than Gennady Golovkin, the IBO / WBA middleweight champion who has an unblemished record of 33-0 with 30 of those wins coming by way of knockout.
Speaking about a return De La Hoya is quoted as remarking,
?If I do come back, it?ll be against Triple G.?
Sat here in the editorial chair of Vital Boxing I?d implore Oscar De La Hoya to seriously rethink the idea.
My memories of De La Hoya carving his way through the weight divisions are wonderful ones, please don?t sully them Oscar by believing that at 41-years of age you can still produce the goods whilst also putting your body through the pain barrier it no longer deserves.
Don?t Do It Oscar!
