Having beaten, in impressive style, the unbeaten American fighter Brandon Gonzales last time out, James DeGale is waiting to see who he?ll fight as the mandatory challenger for the IBF word title.
DeGale, who blasted away Gonzales inside four rounds, is hoping that his opponent is the current champion, Carl Froch. He believes that Froch could be an easy fight for him, commenting to the media,
?His attributes are that he?s strong, he?s tough, he?s got a good engine, a good chin ? I have so much respect for what he?s achieved in Boxing.?
?But I?m all wrong for him, my movement and speed would drive him mad. I?m technically so much better than him?
It?s not his time any more, he?s had his time and it?s time for new blood to come through.?
However, the matter of Froch making a mandatory challenge against DeGale is a problem with Froch wanting to fight Julio Cesar Chavez, in the USA, next. If Froch wishes to pursue that fight, he may have to vacate his IBF belt, but is that something likely to happen, DeGale doesn?t think so, further remarking,
?Froch is a proud man, he doesn?t want to give up titles and Eddie is confident he is going to fight me next.?
But what if DeGale has gauged the situation wrong? What if Froch surprises everyone and ditches the IBF title to pursue that adventure in Las Vegas?
Well DeGale is prepared for that, adding,
?If not Froch, in my next fight I?m still making history ? I?ll be the first Olympic gold medallist from Great Britain to win a world title.?
Let?s hope DeGale isn?t disappointed, although I fear a fight with Froch might not be the one he is landed with, how about you?
