It seems an age since James DeGale was last in the ring.
The actual date was January when our reigning IBF super-middleweight champion drew with the Swedish fighter, Badou Jack.
During the fight, in which DeGale had Jack on the canvas in the first round, DeGale picked up a shoulder injury that required surgery to repair a torn rotary cuff.
His nose also required some attention after the septum deviated.
But, speaking to the media, DeGale has confirmed that his comeback is on track, with the London fighter remarking,
‘Hopefully by the end of September I’ll be able to punch, by October I’ll be able to spar again, so I’ll be back in December.
‘I want to box three times next year.’
No opponent or venue was mentioned but it would be good to see DeGale in action in the UK once again.
Returning to the Badou Jack fight, DeGale believes that if the shoulder hadn?t of been troubling him it would have been a different outcome, with the boxer further adding,
‘I was boxing handicapped, 100% I’d have beaten Jack without it?
He probably would, but then life is full of ifs and buts isn?t it!
