In the early hours of Sunday morning James DeGale successfully defended his IBF super-middleweight belt when he took a unanimous points? verdict over Lucian Bute.

In a way the fight, in Quebec, took second fiddle to the bout in Dusseldorf, Germany. I guess nothing beats a world heavyweight fight, especially when the verdict gave Britain an eleventh world champion and one at the blue ribbon weight.

However, far from being fazed by the fact that his own belt was somewhat over-shadowed, it appears James DeGale took inspiration from the feats of Tyson Fury, remarking to the media after he retained his IBF super-middleweight title,

?The Brits are flying right now.

?Tyson pulled off the upset in Germany, I watched it in the hotel, it really did inspire me to go out and keep hold of my title, it gave me that extra push. I boxed in the amateurs with him and been around squads with him, and he’s gone on to prove a lot of doubters wrong.?

He sure did and it?s heart-warming to know that British boxers now hold more world titles than boxers of any other nation.
