But against who?
With Carl Froch having finally vacated the IBF super-middleweight title, James DeGale can now finally look forward to his date with destiny.
It appears that two possible opponents are being lined up for DeGale?s tilt at the world title.
First in the queue is the American, Andre Dirrell, with negotiations expected to start for a bout at London?s O2 Arena on April 25th.
However, if Andre Dirrell can?t be tempted to London then it is expected that the attention will be switched towards the Mexican fighter, Gilberto Ramirez or even a domestic showdown with George Groves.
Talking about finally getting his world title shot, DeGale has remarked,
‘I’m making history – I’m going to be the first British Olympic gold medallist to win a world title.
‘I’m willing to fight anyone. You’re boxing for the world title so whoever it is, it’s going to be hard. Finally my chance is here. I’m excited and I can’t wait for it.’
It remains to be seen if DeGale can grasp this opportunity and make history.
