When the inference was being bandied out I stuck my head above the parapet and begged Oscar De La Hoya not to make a comeback.
De La Hoya was one of my boyhood heroes and having won world titles at six different weights, I didn?t want to see his career tarnished by some tardy comeback.
At forty-two years of age, time isn?t on Oscar?s side and whilst he may think he still has it in him, he?ll find that whilst the brain may now what to do the body wouldn?t be so fast in reacting.
Therefore, it?s pleasing to read that Oscar has seen sense and decided not to make a ring comeback and that his last fight, a loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2008 will remain his last fight.
Taking to the social media network to let his legions of fans know about his decision, De La Hoya commented,
?I’m retired, and after speaking to my family & following a great deal of introspection, I’ve decided to stay retired.?
Thank goodness for that, is my sentiment.
De La Hoya to Stay Retired
