On the under-card of the Mayweather v McGregor promotion, at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, was a fight that saw Gervonta Davis go head-to-head with Francisco Fonseca.
Originally for the IBF world super-featherweight title, Davis was stripped of his champion status after failing to make the weight, tipping the scales at two pounds over the weight limit.
That decision meant that only Fonseca could leave the ring as the IBF champion.
With the fight still going ahead, Davis showed what a classy operator he is, going through his full repertoire of punches.
However, the crowd didn?t warm to his show-boating and it irritated Fonseca who caught Davis with a big punch in the seventh round.
That punch saw Davis respond by going through the gears and the fight was stopped in the eighth round with a punch that seemed to catch Fonseca on the neck.
With Fonseca on the canvas, Davis did himself no favours by kneeling next to Fonseca as the count was administered.
The win saw Davis extend his record to 19 wins from 19 fights whilst Fonseca suffered his first defeat in 21 fights.
