It seems that after Anthony Crolla lost his WBA lightweight title last night, against the Venezuela fighter Jorge Linares, a re-match is most definitely on the cards.
Crolla, the defending champion, put up such a good display in defeat, Linares was very quick to offer his opponent a re-match.
But it would seem he doesn?t really have an option with Eddie Hearn declaring that the fight contract did have a re-match clause in it, if Crolla were to lose.
Speaking about just such a clause, Hearn is quoted in the media as having remarked,
‘There’s a rematch clause. It’s the biggest fight for Linares. I don’t envisage any problems.
‘Because Anthony put up such a good fight the 12-13,000 that were in the Manchester Arena for the first fight will increase next time.
‘And because the money will be big and Linares will think he can win again, they’ll be thinking ‘bring it on’.’
Whilst Crolla added,
?I’d love a rematch but I’d have to come back better in order to win. But sharing a ring with a great fighter like Jorge can only benefit me. I’ll be smarter than I was this time.’
Let?s get it on then.
