High up on the under-card, at the Phones4U Arena in Manchester, Anthony Crolla was looking to gate-crash the world lightweight scene.

Steadily making progress through the ranks, Crolla hoped that a win over a former world champion, in the shape of Gamaliel Diaz, would be a valuable stepping stone and open up an avenue for a world title fight.

Unfortunately, Crolla was left in a state of limbo after the fight was declared a technical draw in the third round. An accidental clash of heads had left Diaz with a nasty cut above his right eye and there was no other alternative other than to halt the fight.

Not the result either fighter would have wanted but these things happen!
