Topping the bill at the Ice Arena last night (Saturday) was a fight that saw Tommy Coyle take on Martin Gethin.

Coyle, with a record that reads 21-2 with 10 wins coming by knockout, knew that anything other than a win would jeopardize his summer showdown with close friend and rival Luke Campbell.

Gethin, a former British title contender, entered this fight with a record that read 25-7-1 with 11 wins coming by knockout, knew this was a chance to get his career back on track.

With the bell having sounded it was Coyle who started the better with Gethin retreating and not getting to many punches off.

The second round though Gethin almost finish the fight. Coyle came forward throwing punches but leaving himself wide open and when Gethin caught Coyle flush on the chin there looked no way that Coyle would beat the count. But beat the count he did and Coyle survived the round.

The following three rounds saw Coyle the busier of the two boxers and Gethin?s work-rate was decreasing but the end of the fight still came as a shock when Gethin quit the fight complaining of a burst ear drum.

Coyle had the win and the all-Hull lightweight clash, this summer, remains on.
