On Friday night in Derby, Jamie Cox moved his career just that little bit closer to a world title fight.

Cox claimed the WBO European super-middleweight title after beating Blas Miguel Martinez.

The win was emphatic with Cox stopping his opponent in 134 seconds of action.

Cox is now unbeaten in 19 contests and looking towards a world title shot next with the fighter remarking to the media,

‘Basically we are looking at a world title shot next.

‘If that comes off it is a massive, massive thing for the town, my family and friends and all my supporters.’

‘I was only in the ring for a short amount of time so hopefully (promoter) Frank Warren and (manager) Lee Beard can come together and I can get back in there as soon as possible.

‘There is no need to hang about.’

Jamie isn?t fussed about who he?d prefer to fight for a world title either, further adding in his interview with his local BBC Wiltshire,

‘I’ll face any of them. I leave that to my manager or promoter. Hopefully if we win those fights we’ll be involved in some super fights with people such as George Groves or (IBF holder) James DeGale, which will be a big UK affair. ?

The future is looking bright for Jamie Cox, a fighter to keep an eye on.
