Over in New York last night, the big fight at the Barclay Centre saw the Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto clash with the Australian Daniel Geale.

Cotto was defending his WBC middleweight title against the boxer who many British fight fans will recall was the opponent who Darren Barker beat to claim a world title.

As it turned out the fight didn?t last the distance with Cotto stopping Geale in the fourth round.

The Puerto Rican?s superior power had Geale in trouble from the opening bell with the Australian appearing to have become weight-weakened after battling to make the 157 pound limit.

Cotto constantly backed Geale up and in the fourth round a big left-hook had the Australian on the canvas. Geale bravely climbed to his feet but was soon hit with several fierce body-shots before a right to the head floored him again.

Once again Geale bravely climbed to his feet but the referee, Harvey Dock, ruled that he was in no fit state to continue and stopped the contest.

The defeat means that Geale has now lost three of his last five fights whilst Cotto, with a record that now reads 40-4 with 33 coming by way of knockout can look forward to a huge fight with the Mexican, Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez with Cotto remarking about what lies ahead,

‘Let’s do it.

‘Before that, I want to spend some time with my family and enjoy them again, but then it is back to LA and training for Canelo.’

It should be some fight.
