On the undercard of the huge promotion at the O2 Arena, in London, last night Conor Benn made his professional debut.

After just nineteen amateur fights Conor was preparing to step into the professional ring trying to emulate, or better, the achievements of his father, the legend that is Nigel Benn.

Benn, as we?re well aware, won world titles at two different weights and was a fearsome fighter. Nigel, as many expected he would, flew over from Australia to be beside his son as he made his debut.

A late change of opponent meant that Conor was facing the Bulgarian fighter Ivailo Boyanov, in the super-lightweight division.

Conor got off to a good start, stalking his opponent and catching him with a selection of body and head-shots and it was no surprise that his opponent couldn?t take the punishment being handed out forcing the referee to stop the fight in the first round.

Afterwards a jubilant father and son exchanged kisses with Nigel suggesting that his heart was a flutter watching his son. However, he re-iterated his pre-fight thoughts whereby he suggested big-things were lay ahead for his son.

Obviously it?s too early, after just one fight, to make any predictions, but if Nigel says he?s going to be a great then I?ll not argue with him.
