During the week Conor Benn?s father, Nigel, somewhat stole his sons thunder by announcing that he was set to return to the ring to face Steve Collins.
Reports suggested, in the media, Conor wanted nothing to do with the fight involving two fighters in their fifties.
Last night though, at the O2 Arena, in London, Conor made a long-awaited return to the ring after finally recovering from a jaw injury that had seen him kept on the side-lines.
With Mike Cole stepping in as a late opponent, Conor was walked to the ring by his famous father.
The bout lasted three rounds before Conor stopped his opponent with a big left-hook, prompting Nigel to leap into the ring and lift his son high into the air.
Grateful to have gotten the win on his comeback, Conor had this to say to the media,
‘Eight months out was a killer.
‘I think I’ve boxed the best I’ve ever boxed tonight. There is no more pressure, I’ve changed my mental state. I’m relieved now, I do this because I love it and enjoy it.’
With Conor?s career now back on track, how long before he?s in a title fight?
