Last night, at the Waterfront Hall, in Belfast, Jamie Conlan kept his dream alive of fighting for a world title.

The Belfast fighter, looking to take a step closer to a world title eliminator, won the vacant WBC Silver Super-Flyweight title beating his Nicaraguan opponent, Yader Cardoza, on a split decision.

The three judges scored the fight as thus:

? 114 ? 113 (to Conlan)
? 112 ? 115 (to Cardoza)
? 115 ? 113 (to Conlan)

In a close fight, Conlan recovered from being knocked down in the eighth round and also survived a strong finish by Cardoza to take the verdict.

Talking about what was a fight that many perceived could have gone any way, Conlan remarked to the media,

‘He caught me high on the head, I had to ride the storm.

‘I could do this all week, although I don’t want to do it all week. The crowd was brilliant.’

The win was the 19th consecutive win for Conlan as he looks towards fulfilling his world title dream.
