Over in New York, at the legendary Madison Square Garden venue, the Irish prospect Michael Conlan was having the seventh fight of his professional career.
Boxing on the undercard of the bill-topping fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares, Conlan was matched against the Spanish fighter Ibon Larrinaga.
Conlan put on his usual dominant display to take the verdict on the scorecards of all three judges, with all three scoring the fight 80-72, in favour of Conlan.
From the sound of the opening bell, Conlan was in charge, forcing his opponent on to his back-foot.
The best of the action came in the fourth round when Conlan dominated completely and had his opponent clinging on desperate to hear the sound of the bell.
The win takes Conlan’s record to 7-0 whilst Larrinaga sees his record slip to 10-2.
Next up for Conlan is his first professional fight in his native Belfast when he will be topping the bill at the SSE Arena on 30 June.
It should be quite an occasion.
