Away from the circus that is the Floyd Mayweather Jnr v Conor McGregor fight, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on Saturday night, is an interesting light-heavyweight world title fight between Nathan Cleverly and Badou Jack.

The fight sees Cleverly make the first defence of the WBA light-heavyweight crown he won against Juergen Braehmer, against a fighter who has relinquished the WBC super-middleweight world title belt to move up a weight division.

Badou Jack?s last fight was against another British fighter who holds a world title belt, James DeGale.

However, as the fight draws nearer, Cleverly has promised to make his opponent pay for stepping up a weight division, with the Welshman remarking,

‘He’s coming up to my division, we are going to make him pay.

‘Badou does the basics very well, a solid all-round fighter.

‘He has a good guard, good defence and is a world-class operator who is consistent.

‘He’s had good wins over big fighters but he doesn’t do anything exceptional. So he’s a tough fighter but I think his style is suited to mine.

‘I think he may feel stronger at the weight, and feel as though he has more energy. That extra bit of weight can invigorate you. He may be more confident and stronger. But I’m established at this
weight for years and at some point in the fight you will see that difference.’

Yesterday (Wednesday), saw both fighters perform a public work-out with the event being held at the MGM Grand Hotel. Cleverly looked relaxed and went through a repertoire of shadow boxing and pad work, whereas Jack seemed intent to just pose and did very little in the purposely erected ring.

Cleverly enters the ring with three defeats from his thirty-three professional fights whilst Jack will enter the ring with one defeat from his twenty-four fights.
