On the under-card of the Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor fight, Nathan Cleverly was defending is WBA light-heavyweight title against Badou Jack.

It was Cleverly?s first defence of the title he?d won against Juergen Braehmer back in October 2016.

Sadly, for Cleverly, it was a night that was to end in major disappointment.

Badou Jack was by far the better fighter and after being hurt in just the second round, Cleverly couldn?t get back into the fight.

The end came in the fifth round with Cleverly taking too many punches and offering very little in return.

Following what was his fourth loss in a thirty-four-fight career, Cleverly announced his retirement from the sport on his Twitter account, remarking,

‘Time to say goodbye. Thank you and goodbye boxing.

‘I’ve lived it and loved every second of this sport. A few too many miles on the clock.’

A well-timed announcement we?d suggest.
