News broke yesterday that the Welsh boxer Nathan Cleverly has been awarded a world title fight.

Cleverly will be taking on the WBA world light-heavyweight champion Juergen Braehmer with the bout taking place at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany.

The fact that Cleverly, who has a record that reads 29-3 with 15 wins coming by way of knockout, has been given this chance to win a world title might surprise many when you consider that the Welshman has lost two out of his last three bouts.

Cleverly, in his last fight back in October in Chicago, lost a 12 round unanimous decision to Andrzej Fonfara although his performance earned him some kudos.

Cleverly also has a recent defeat to Tony Bellew on his record with the Welshman losing to the Liverpool fighter back in November 2014, with his only win in his last three fights coming against Tomas Man in May of last year.

Therefore, you?d suggest that Cleverly?s promoter has done well in securing this world title chance for his charge, but whether the Welshman will return from Germany with the WBA light-heavyweight belt remains to be seen.
