Rumours relating to Nathan Cleverly defending his WBO Light-heavyweight title in Cardiff have proven true.

His promoter, Frank Warren, has confirmed that Cleverly will meet the unbeaten Russian fighter, Sergey Kovalev, at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday 17th August.

Kovalev, a knockout specialist, is unbeaten and was believed to be taking on Bernard Hopkins as the mandatory challenger to the veteran?s IBF title. However, a trip to Wales obviously appeals to the Russian more.

Discussing his options whilst also announcing the fight, Cleverly has remarked,

‘I’m fit, I’m ready and willing to fight anyone in the light-heavyweight division.’

‘I’ve called out some of the big names, they’ve declined the fight.?

We’re doing our very best to make these big fights but unfortunately they’re not going ahead and we’re fighting these hungry challengers, who have got nothing to lose.?

That’s why I’ve got to have my wits about me, but we’ll just keep going.’

In my opinion Cleverly has picked a tough opponent and this is a fight that could go either way.
