Who is Clark Sammartino you might ask!

Well he is the judge who, on Saturday night judging the IBF bantamweight world title fight between Lee Haskins and Ryan Burnett, made such a monumental mess of the scoring he managed to silence the vociferous crowd inside the SSE Arena.

Sammartino, with the other two judges awarding the contest to Burnett by wide points? margins, gave the fight to Haskins by an equally wide points? margin.

Eddie Hearn, as baffled as the rest of us, remarked about the obvious error,

‘His scorecard was excellent: it was just the wrong way around.?

However, on a more serious note, the judge was reported to the British Boxing Board of Control general secretary Robert Smith who is quoted as having remarked,

‘He got it wrong.

‘Luckily, the right man won.

‘I will advise the IBF of our dissatisfaction.’

Meanwhile, Hearn believes that the split decision verdict should be changed, further adding,

‘I’ve never seen anything like it.

‘I presume the split decision will be revoked. It’ll be a unanimous decision, it must be.’

Let?s hope common sense prevails and the record book is corrected accordingly.
