One of the most colourful and often controversial characters in British heavyweight boxing, Dereck Chisora, has signed up with Matchroom Boxing.
Chisora, who has been out of the ring since being controversially beaten by Dillian Whyte, in December last year, on the under-card of the AJ v Eric Molina card, is looking for a re-match with Whyte.
First though, Chisora will make his debut for Matchroom Boxing in Liverpool, on September 30th, against an as yet, unknown opponent.
The fight will be a warm-up bout for when Chisora challenges for the European heavyweight title, against Agit Kabayel on November 4 in Monaco.
Talking to the media, Chisora had this to say about his future,
‘I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring after a frustrating period of injury, starting in Liverpool next Saturday.
‘Then we are going to win the European title in November, and then I’m going to punish that punk Dillian Whyte and move on to a shot at the world title.’
Whereas Eddie Hearn, who fronts Matchroom Boxing, had this to add,
‘I’m pleased to welcome Dereck to the team and look forward to being involved in some big fights with him over the next year.
‘You know what you are going to get with ‘Del Boy’, plenty of drama and a load of heart. He will return to action in Liverpool and challenge for the European title in November.
‘We will work towards a Whyte rematch for early next year. It’s a fight that I think boxing needs to see again.’
Some more excitement pending in the heavyweight division then!
