At Wembley Stadium, on Saturday night, Luke Campbell took on Darley?s Perez in an official eliminator for the WBA world lightweight title.

Perez, a previous visitor to these shores, was expected to give the fighter from Hull a stiff test.

Campbell took a few rounds to get into his stride but showed his undoubted class by out-boxing Perez.

Perez, clearly losing the fight, suggested he?d hurt his arm as we entered the latter stages of the bout.

During the ninth-round Perez clearly decided that he?d had enough and walked towards his corner, quitting.

Campbell had the win he wanted and after the fight remarked to the media,

?Perez is a smart and patient fighter so I had to be just as smart. I?m hoping I can fight Jorge Linares by the end of the year, that?s what I want.?

Linares, who recently beat Anthony Crolla, had flown from Las Vegas to watch the fight, but if Campbell is to dethrone an excellent champion he?ll have to improve his game further.

  • Linares is a class above Campbell, look elsewhere for a world title Luke
