Earlier this year the up and coming lightweight, Luke Campbell, disappeared from the scene for a few months.

Campbell, an up and coming prospect who had started his career so well after winning gold at the London Olympics, took time out to look after a family matter.

He returned to action last month, at Wembley, when he beat Krzysztof Szot and he?ll be boxing again shortly when he faces the Argentine fighter, Daniel Brizuela, for the WBA Inter-Continental lightweight crown in two weeks.

For Campbell it represents the first chance to get a belt and he?ll receive a right royal reception in his home town of Hull.

However, as the fight approaches, Luke has spoken about the time he took off with it being related to his father?s cancer diagnosis with Luke remarking,

?It was a difficult time for me.?

?I took time off because I needed to spend time with my family.?

?Seeing my dad?s fighting spirit really encouraged me and has given me confidence. Seeing the way he?s fought his illness has made me a better fighter.?

Thankfully, Luke?s father is now in remission and I reckon a win against Daniel Brizuela and gaining that first professional belt will put a smile on both the faces of father and son.
