Following the fight with James DeGale, at the Barclays Centre, Brooklyn, New York, a fight that ended in what was termed a majority draw, meaning both DeGale and his opponent Badou Jack, retained their respective IBF and WBC super-middleweight titles, the WBC have moved swiftly with regards to keeping their belt in the spotlight.

It has been announced that the WBC expect Badou Jack to make a defence against another UK fighter, Callum Smith.

Smith, who hails from Liverpool, is ranked as the WBC?s number one-rated fighter. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, confirmed, via a social network site (Twitter) that the WBC had issued a letter ordering the bout.

However, whether Callum Smith will get the opportunity to fight Badou Jack remains in doubt.

The Jack camp, managed by Floyd Mayweather, have already stated that there fighter is set to move up to light-heavyweight, a weight they feel the Swedish fighter will be more effective at.

If this is the case, Hearn has remarked that the title will be declared vacant and that Callum Smith will be fighting the number two-rated WBC fight, Anthony Dirrell, for the WBC belt.

It?s understood that a purse agreement is to be agreed by February 17th.
