On Saturday, in Glasgow, on the under-card of the Burns v Di Rocco world title fight, Callum Smith was back in the ring.
With a world title fight on the agenda as the mandatory challenger for the WBC super-middleweight title, currently held by Badou Jack, Callum Smith was matched against the Argentine fighter Cesar Reynoso.
As both fighters took the referees instructions, Callum Smith looked the far bigger fighter and when the Liverpool fighter had his opponent on the canvas early on; it didn?t look as if the fight would last long.
But the Argentine fighter proved to be the gutsiest fighter of the night, refusing to let the knockdown affect his game-plan and catching Smith with some decent punches.
Smith was always in control but he just couldn?t get the Argentine fighter out of there until when in the sixth round Smith?s punching prowess suddenly had Reynoso struggling. Two more visits t the canvas followed and the referee stepped in to halt the contest.
Smith extended his record to 20 wins from 20 fights and now waits to see who he will challenge for a version of the super-middleweight crown, but fair play to Reynoso who certainly earned his purse with a rugged performance.
Callum Smith makes it 20 Out of 20
